Linking Google search trends to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy

The question

Does what people search for online, and what they already believe, shape whether they hesitate to get vaccinated?

Design and methods

Study 1 analysed a year of popular COVID-19 keywords in Google Trends. Study 2 surveyed 2,120 adults in Pakistan, with the data tested through structural equation modelling, path analysis and moderated regression.

What it found

Infodemics, conspiracy beliefs and religious fatalism each predicted vaccine hesitancy, and the effects of infodemics and conspiracy beliefs were stronger among women.

Can mHealth advertising help prevent cardiovascular disease?

The question

What drives middle-aged adults to adopt AI-enabled mobile health apps for heart health, and what holds them back?

Design and methods

An online survey of 495 middle-aged adults built on the UTAUT-3 model, testing AI-enabled internet of things, the digital divide and individual trust as moderators.

What it found

Mobile health advertising and IoT integration encouraged adoption, while low digital literacy was the main barrier. The paper recommends instructional health advertising to close the gap.

How podcast framing changes preventive health behaviour

The question

Which ways of framing a health podcast actually lead listeners to take preventive action?

Design and methods

A content analysis of health podcasts, followed by quasi-experiments with 640 respondents in the UAE and Pakistan that tested eight scientific and health frames.

What it found

Frames that matched the content of their message, whether presenting scientific evidence or emphasising health, led audiences to adopt preventive behaviours.

From risk communication to vaccine acceptance

The question

How does exposure to online health information move people towards getting fully vaccinated?

Design and methods

A nationwide web survey of 1,946 internet users in Pakistan, analysed with structural equation modelling under the Situational Theory of Problem Solving.

What it found

Risk perception raised motivation to seek and select accurate vaccine information, and that behaviour predicted greater willingness to be fully vaccinated.
